Holiday Gift Guide: Brave is on DVD this week!

My daughter is in love with all of the Disney Princesses! She has seen every one of the movies. The latest Disney princess movie was Brave. We didn't go to the theater to see this because I was told there were some scary scenes and I wasn't sure if she was ready for it. So of course we have anxiously been waiting for it to come out on DVD. And guess what? This week, Tuesday November 13 as a matter of fact, our dreams were granted!

Yes, that's right! On November 13, Brave was released on Blu Ray, DVD and digital copies! In case you have been under a rock and missed out on seeing that wild beautiful red haired Princess Merida then here's a little bit about the movie:

An original and thrilling journey set in the ancient and magical Highlands of Scotland, “Brave” follows the heroic journey of the headstrong, young adventurer Merida.  Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida confronts tradition and defies an age-old custom that inadvertently unleashes chaos, and forces her to discover the true meaning of bravery.  The 5-Disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition (1 Blu-ray 3D + 2 Blu-ray Discs + 1 DVD + 1 Digital Copy) has something for everyone – from the home entertainment enthusiast who demands the highest quality, state-of-the-art technology offerings, to the family who enjoys the interactive and engaging bonus features that only Blu-ray can provide – making this unique and beautiful film a “must add” to any home media collection.
My Take: I was so excited when we checked the mail and saw the Ultimate Collector's Edition of the DVD. It included: a Blu-Ray 3D DVD, the Blu-Ray DVD, the Blu-Ray special features DVD , a standard DVD, and a digital copy! We were thrilled. The kids actually watched the movie at least one time for four days! I think I even have parts of the movie memorized by now! They loved it. My daughter has wild curly hair so she was happy to see a princess with hair like hers. We've been trying to get her to wear her hair down more and when she saw Merida wearing her hair down then she pulled her ponytail out...LOL My son loved all the bears in the movie. I would elaborate more but you really have to watch the movie to understand. I don't want to give it all away. And of course I had to share a clip of one of our favorite scenes:

My personal thoughts are mixed. Most moms know this movie was different than most Disney Princess movies and I loved that. We knew it was more about a strong independent girl vs the girly romance story. However, I was completely thrown for a loop with the plotline. It wasn't at all what I expected! And I say that in a good way. I loved the movie! (Of course I do, because I watch it every time the kids do...hehehe) It just wasn't what I thought it was going to be. I even lent out the DVD copy to my neighbor so her kids could watch it. She asked if it was okay to give it back a little late because her kids wanted to watch it again!

So yes, Disney has done it again! Another hit smash! This movie would make an awesome Christmas gift, exactly why I added it to my gift guide!!
