Back to School with a #SmartSnack from Del Monte Fruit Cups

This is the first year that both of my kids are in school and I never thought things would be so hectic. My daughter is in preschool 5 days a week and my son is in for 3 days a week. They and their mommy are constantly on the go! We never have time to get anything done, especially eating. My son is a super picky eater so it's always hard to find something he likes to eat. However, one thing that he loves to eat is fruit!

The great thing about fruit is it's healthy and sweet! My kids are big fans of fresh fruit but it's not always that easy to transport around fresh fruit. That's when you have to get creative. We're big fans of fruit cups and one of my favorites are the Del Monte fruit cups. So off I set on a mission to find a creative way to use Del Monte fruit cups with preschoolers.

I headed to my son's favorite store Walmart! The best part is fall was in the air. It was the first day of fall and you couldn't help but notice that Walmart was prepared.

I tried to avoid the candy aisle (even though Halloween is coming) and went straight for the fruit cups. I couldn't believe all the options! My kids are really into plain fruits like the diced peaches:

but I'm all about the unique choices like Brown Sugar and Cinnamon. YUM!

And it also helped that I'm a frugal mommy and had a coupon to use! Woo-hoo! If you want to see my complete shopping experience then check out my google + album!

I decided if we're going with a theme like Back to School then I needed to do something creative and educational. Most preschool curriculum are heavily based on creative thinking so I wanted to expand on that idea along with getting the kids into the fall spirit. I baked up some pumpkin shaped sugar cookies and decided to invite over the kids' friends and let them decorate them with the fruit. Each kid got a cookie.

Then I put a scoop or two of vanilla yogurt tinted orange with the help of food coloring and let the kids finger paint their cookies.

Finally they used the different fruits to make faces...well at least that was the idea but when you have hungry 2-4 year olds you get more eating than decorating...LOL. I had to open up additional fruit cups for the kids to eat as they decorated!

So if you want a simple #SmartSnack then I suggest you look to Del Monte fruit cups. You can also follow them on Twitter and Facebook for new flavors, upcoming promotions and coupons (my favorite)!
