I'm sure almost everyone knows that Marvel The Avengers came out on DVD this past Tuesday, September 25. (I personally tweeted it several times...hehehe). Let me share a little something with you. I hate going to the movie theater because I don't like to be disturbed by other movie viewers. There have been only two movies that I have ventured into the theater this year to see. This was one of them and it was spectacular!
So on Tuesday, bright and early I headed to Walmart to get the Exclusive Blu-Ray/DVD/Novel Combo Pack Yep, there were only 100K of these babies released and I wanted to be one of the first to get it! I also wanted a chance to check out the new AR (augmented Reality) app that I had read about but more on that later.
I headed straight back to the DVD section, well actually I stopped right in the entrance way to Walmart to check out the sign above that my kids had seen 5 million times along with asking for the movie. :)
I was searching the huge walkway where they normally showcase new releases and was disappointed to find nothing. I actually couldn't find the display rack because a woman was standing in front of it. Yes, sadly it was that small. I'm not sure if it was because of I was so early or if they just didn't receive any movies. Either way, it was simple to find the one I wanted (love the security) and head back to the front to the deli.
At the deli was where I picked up the coolest pizza box ever. Each Avenger adorned the box of the different styles of pizza. Now I don't know if you've ever had a Marketside pizza but if you haven't you should. I opted for the All American Captain America Pepperoni Pizza...along with picking up some cheesy breadsticks. Really, you should try them! They are less than $5 and it's basically a complete meal on its own.
Now back to the AR app. First, it took forever to download to my phone and then it wouldn't even work. After we did a little research we found you could download it to iPads so we opted for that. And then the fun began. We scanned the ad and a few signs in the store (easy to find with the checkpoint map) and took the Avenger quiz. I was Iron Man. You can see more about the store checkpoints and my shop in my google + album.
At home we used the box and the AR app to display a cool 3D scene inspired by the movie. Yes, it's several days later and we still have the box because the kids ask to do it at least three times a day!
Dinner was interesting. We started the movie and put in the pizza. I tried to take a picture of the movie but it's so action packed everything came out blurry! And then there's the pizza. Yep, the hubs burned some of it because he was so into the movie he forgot to take it out. I just couldn't bare to take pictures of it but we doctored it up and ate it anyway. However, it must be breaking some kind of law to burn a Marketside Pizza. They are just that good! The kids also had a blast reading the graphic novel. My only complaint...can I please have two novels? However, I must admit it did help the kids work on their sharing skills.
So what are you waiting for? If you don't know about the Avengers then I suggest you head to their twitter and facebook pages. Or if you're a beginner you might want to start at Marvel.com. I'm telling you, if you haven't already seen this movie, you'll buy it and it's totally worth it. (Yes, it is on my TV now as I type this. We've watched it every day since we bought it. Can you say Cult Classic?)
