Dr. Seuss' The Lorax on DVD and Blu Ray today!

Sometimes I boycott movies because they get so much hype I feel like I'm going to be disappointed when I finally see them. One of those movies just happened to be one of the most beloved stories out there: The Lorax. Of course I had read the book to the kids but I just didn't feel like the movie could live up to the book. Well, of course there was only one way to find out. Watch it!

In case you don't know what the Lorax is about (yes, you must have been hiding under a rock...hehehe) then here is a quick synopsis:

Universal City, California, June 5, 2012- Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax transports viewers into a fantastical landscape imagined by Dr. Seuss and vividly brought to life by Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team at Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me). Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) from a screenplay adapted by Ken Daurio and Cinco Paul (Despicable MeHOPHorton Hears a Who) from the 1971 children’s classic, the film is an imaginative journey that begins in the town of Thneedville, where a boy searches for the one thing he knows will win the heart of his dream girl. But in order find it, he must discover the story of the Loraxthe often grumpy but loveable protector  of Truffula Valley, in an exciting adventure filled with comedy and heart that USA Today’s Claudia Puig calls, “The right blend of funny, silly, and sweet.”

This socially conscious and entertaining movie is being released on Blu Ray and 3D Blu Ray combo packs today, August 7. Not only does it contain the full version of the movie on Blu Ray, DVD and digital copies but it also includes an additional 3 mini movies that you just HAVE to check out.

My Take: I had the opportunity to review the Blu Ray combo pack. Honestly, I wasn't going to sit down and watch it with the kids. Instead I was going to stay in the kitchen, do some work and occassionally look up to see the kids' reactions to it. HA! That didn't last long. They movie was so entertaining and fun! First, it started with a song. I was bopping along in the kitchen to the song, not watching the movie but enjoying the music. Then the kids would laugh and I would look up to see what was going on. Then I would get mesmerized by the story. Finally, I was sitting with the kids, singing, yes singing along to the songs and cheering for the Lorax. It's one of those movies that you can't dislike no matter how hard you try. We've only watched it once but I'm already begging the kids to watch it with me again. Oh and the mini movies. I'm already a fan of mini movies and my favorite with these is Serenade. I'm sure you can guess why after you watch it!

Buy it: So if you want to have a good time and buy a movie that the kids AND you can enjoy then I suggest you head out this week to pick up this movie. (HINT: I found a great deal on the movie in Walmart and it comes with a stuffed Lorax. Trust me, my son keeps pointing it out every time we go in the store)!

And if you missed it last week, just click on the image below to print out an awesome activity sheet that the kiddos can do before, during or after they watch the movie!

Disclosure: I received a copy of this movie for free by the company in order to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
