When it Rains, it Pours and what to do about it!

So I've been quiet since Friday. There's a few reasons for that. One, we went home for the weekend and I spent the holiday unplugged and hanging with the family. Two, I got some really bad family news which I will probably discuss later but not ready to deal with it now. Three, my daughter and son were sick!!

Yeah, when your whole family gets sick is when you realize how important mommy really is. I just didn't have time to do anything. Once again it gives me that super duper respect I have for working moms. I don't even remember how I did it when I was working. For one thing, I only had one kid. Two is a different story.

For example, my daughter and son got sick last Tuesday. It started with the little man getting a fever and just not feeling well. Then the next day he was sick again but this time the little woman was sick too with a fever! So Thursday I take them to the doctor. No strep, just a virus. Little man decides to get better as we travel to my mom's. Little woman only gets worse. In fact she was sick all weekend with a fever, even throwing up a few times. We get back and I immediately make an appointment for Tuesday afternoon.

Then comes the rain, both figuratively and literally. It started to pour down and continued with showers for the rest of the day. First, my daughter had a fever. I gave her advil and we went to speech class for both kids. Then we came back for a quick lunch. changed into her dance costume and ran to take dance pictures. After dance pictures we headed to the doctor's office and waited an hour before we even saw anyone only to find out that everything was inconclusive and they needed to draw blood over at the lab. So after another 30-40 minutes at the lab drawing blood from a screaming four year old we were finished.

How did my kids make it through the day? Well, they had a little help from my little friend the iPad. Luckily the day before I got an email about two free Disney apps. One was the "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally" appisode app on iPad and the other was "Jake's Never Land Pirate School" gaming app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. What do I like about these apps? Well, number one, right now you can download them both for free! Number two, I've downloaded several "appisodes" and "interactive books" on my iPad but this one was the first to "really" keep the kids' attention. Number three, I honestly found the Pirate School entertaining and a learning experience for both the kids and me! Even the doctor was intrigued! Here's a little more about each:

The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally appisode brings viewing, learning and interaction together into one cohesive, fun-filled iPad experience.   Fans 2-7 years old can touch, tap shake, swipe, drag and talk through an entire episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  The activities presented in the "appisode" include valuable counting, critical thinking and problem solving skills.  This is the first in a series of Disney Junior Appisodes to be released this year.

Using the "Jake's Never Land Pirate School" app, preschoolers can become completely immersed in Never Land, completing pirate-themed challenges presented in Sailing, Music, Flying, and Map and Spyglass classes.  Features include: hunting for doubloons on Doubloon Beach; a customizable pirate certificate signed by Jake; and the ability to import a child's photo into Pixie Dust flying class.
So head on over to the iTunes app store and download these before they are no longer free. Trust me, they were a lifesaver! And BTW- ends up my daughter only had a viral infection and is doing great. Thanks iPad for keeping her and her brother calm and patient! :)
