What's under your sink and is it green? #getclean

Yeah I know that sounds gross but it has a double meaning. I was assigned a task of actually evaluating what cleaners I have under my sinks and then replacing them with cleaner, greener alternatives from Shaklee. Earth Day is right around the corner, April 22, and each year my family tries to do some sort of activity that will help our environment. Last year I think we read some books about how to stay green and did some activity sheets along with learning how to recycle. This year I haven't made any definite plans but I did take on this Shaklee Get Clean challenge to see "what's lurking under my kitchen (and bathroom) sink".

First things first, what was under my sinks? Check it out. (labels have been covered or blocked out):

Please excuse the mess. What's interesting is when you look at the labels on these products and you see what is AND isn't listed in the ingredients. I checked out the Household Products Database (which I didn't even know existed) and you can find some of the coolest information ever! It lists thousands of household products and lists what's in them, the health effects, the manufacturer and how to handle or dispose of them! Luckily, I didn't have anything too bad under my sinks but there were some crazy ingredients like sulfuric acid, ammonia, sodium hydroxide and phthalates. Heck, I don't even know what half of those things are! So the question is: why do I use them if there is something out there that is better for the environment and my family?
Well thanks to Shaklee and their Get Clean products, I'm getting the chance to do just that! This line is amazing.

*No harmful fumes or hazardous chemicals.
      *Outperforms 20 national leading brands.
*You would spend $3400 for ready to use cleaners to get the same amount of clean found in the Get
      Clean Starter Kit!
      * Features Basic H2® Organic Super Cleaning Concentrate - just 1/4 tsp. makes 16oz. of all-purpose
      cleaner for only 3 cents.
      * And when you purchase the Get Clean Starter Kit you also make a positive impact on the planet:
      * Keep 108 pounds of packaging waste from landfills.
      *  Eliminate 248 pounds of greenhouse gas.

Just check out this video to learn all about the products I received!

So what do I think?!? Of course I had to try it out. I decided to start with the All Purpose cleaner. All you needed was some water, Get Clean's Basic H2 organic super cleaning concentrate and one of the spray bottles that was included in the kit. It was simple to make. Just pour 16oz of water into the bottle, add in 1/4 tsp and you're done! This stuff can be used to clean everything from appliances to walls even stainless steel. I tried it out on our counters and it worked great. It even brought a light shine. I then tried it out on our stainless steel refrigerator and at first was a little disappointed. I didn't notice a difference. I decided to apply more of the spray and put a little elbow into it and it cleared it right up! And the shine was amazing. A picture just couldn't do it justice. I'm highly pleased with the products. I've also used the dish washing liquid and I can't wait to use the laundry detergent. My only complaint is there is no scent! This is great for my kids with sensitive skin but I think natural smells like lemon or orange would really help to boost it's popularity. What woman doesn't love a house that smells as good as it looks?

  8. We're about half and half here at our house. I do a lot of cleaning with baking soda and vinegar, use some natural eco-friendly brand cleaners and then have some that I have no idea what's in them.
My step-mom uses Shaklee and loves it!
