Hey, do you remember the whole "Get in Shape" girl toys/exercise equipment for pre-teen and teenage girls? I remember I just had to have them! My favorite was that skip pole thingy. You would put it on one ankle and it would rotate and you jumped over the pole. You know what I'm talking about, right? Well, it's been a long time for me!
But now, I'm trying to get back in shape! My brother did a half marathon last year. My husband just did one this past weekend and I want to be able to join them for another one in November. So what's my solution? GET IN SHAPE! Now don't get me wrong, I'm like most mommies out there. I was in great shape, yes, I even had a nice flat stomach, before I got pregnant. Then I had two kids back to back and it all went downhill after that. I used to run, I used to work out, now I'm active but not in shape.
So I bit the bullet. A local 5k run contacted me about helping to promote their event. Now this is a super awesome and really unique nationwide event called Run Like A Mother. And it's exactly that. A 5K (3.2mile) race with nothing but women running! Their mission: to fuel a woman’s journey toward health and wellness. Empower with
education and training programs. Inspire with communities, events and
races. Enable through programs and partnerships. Run Like a Mother®
Isn’t Just a Race, It’s Our Way of Life! The race takes place in 10 different cities along with a virtual run (you can get together with a bunch of girlfriends and run your own race in your city)! The special thing about Run Like a Mother is that all races occur on Mother's Day. Yep, that's right! This year I will be starting my Mother's Day by running a 5K! What better motivator to get in shape than that!
Another amazing part of Run Like A Mother is the training sessions. Each city will offer a 6 week training program with a personalized coach for you and a team of women. It's only $25 and the benefits are numerous. Unfortunately, I'm a little late signing up so I opted for a different training method. I'm personally using the Couch to 5K program and I'm happy to say that I've completed the first week. Sure it was rough and I'm learning a lot. I'll be writing about my first week's experience tomorrow so stay tuned. I'll also be doing a weekly round-up of my training all the way until race day. The program is 9 weeks and I only have 5 left until the race so we'll see how it goes.
So stay tuned! I know you've all heard me talking about getting in shape before but this time I HAVE to do it! I've signed up for an actual race and that's a big first step for me! Thanks to RLAM (Run Like A Mother) for contacting me. You can learn more about their program and join in on the camaraderie by following them on Facebook!
