How many of us are tired of going to the local bakery, (or in my case grocery store) and buying cakes for our kids? Or maybe you actually hire someone and pay an arm and a leg for a character cake? Well, this year I'm doing something different. My kids seem to care more about their gifts than the food at the party (they are still young) so I've decided to make my own cakes/birthday treats. The thing is, I'm not that creative and it has to be easy. For my daughter's birthday I did rainbow cupcakes and then made my own toppers out of Dora stickers! The kids loved it! But that's as creative as I get. So when I was offered the chance to review Sweets on a Stick by Linda Vandermeer, I knew this would be perfect.
Sweets on a stick has more than 150 kid friendly recipes for easy cake pops, cookies and even some healthy treats! Perfect for moms like me! SWEETS ON A STICK
the only cookbook that provides recipes for cakes, cookies, brownies,
pies, and candies that are convenient, eye-catching, and a
treat to make. You will find everything from cake pops and mini
pies to cookies and marshmallow kabobs. From fruity to chocolate,
crunchy to smooth, there are dozens of tasty bites to tempt your taste
My Take: OK the original plan was to pick a recipe out of the book and make it with my kids. Unfortunately winter struck and both the kids and I ended up with bad colds! :( I've looked through the book several times and I have even bookmarked some really great recipes I want to try. Yet, I must say my favorite part is all the helpful tips in the book! For example, I'm terrible with melting chocolate. They not only tell you how to melt chocolate but what kind and name of chocolate to get that will work best for each recipe! There's also ideas on frosting, the equipment you should use and more! And each tip is marked by a bright yellow box labeled "Pop Tip"! How cute!
I also love all the healthy treats! There are so many ideas for creative fruit kabobs like "Rainbow Fruit Kabobs" or "Strawberry Mallow Skewers". There's so much to choose from and the best part is that it's so easy the kids can join in.
