Review: Bad Kitty

The new thing in my family is listening to Books on CD. The kids are finally old enough to understand how to turn the page when the bell rings. And it's so much easier than me having to read to them. Now, don't get me wrong, I still read to them! It's just now, when we're in the car, I can throw in a book on CD and the kids can follow along and listen as I'm driving. It makes it a lot quieter ride! :)

The latest book that we have been reading/listening to is Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel. This particular book on CD is actually read by the actress Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives).

When kitty was told that her favorite foods were all gone and that all that was available were…

Asparagus…Beets…Cauliflour…Dill… and 22 other unappealing vegetables, she became a very bad kitty indeed.

She…Ate my homework…Bit Grandma…Clawed the curtains…Damaged the dishes…

Then her owner returned from the grocery store with…An assortment of anchovies… Buffalo burrito…Chicken Cheesecake…… and all was well.

Kitty Apologized to grandma…Bought me new toys…Cleaned her cat box…Drove me to school… and all was well. Until a new puppy arrived…

My Take: My kids love this book! It has some of the funniest foods and cutest situations ever. I love that it goes through the alphabet 4 times, even my 4 year old has caught on and starts pointing out letters and reading along. The 2 year old just loves to turn the pages when he hears the cat "meow". I, personally, sit in the front seat driving and laughing at all the funny things that kitty does, like biting grandma and quarreling with the neighbor. It's so funny to hear Vanessa Williams reading the "nasty" letter kitty sends to the neighbor!

As for the format of the CD it's great. First is just a run through of the story so you can just listen to it without the book. Second is the follow along with Vanessa Williams and then third you have a live reading by the author. It is so funny hearing him discuss the "cat foods" with kids. They are trying to discover whether things like "a donkey named Dave, and penguin pizza" really exist. You'll be surprised at what actually does. The book is also great. It's pretty large which is perfect for little hands to hold on their laps in the carseats! I love this book and I'm sure we're going to wear that CD out!

Buy it: Bad Kitty went on sale January 17, 2012 for the price of $9.99 on Amazon.
