HDG- #Review- Brave Irene

My kids love a good story, in fact I read to them every night. BUT if your kids are like mine they want 50 books read to them a night! That's why it's always nice to come across a good ole book on CD. I remember when I was little it used to be books on tape. Wow! Am I dating myself?

Since it's winter time I was excited to review a great book about a brave girl in some super snowy weather. My kids love snow even though we don't see it much on the east coast of NC. The book is Brave Irene and here's a little more about it:

Brave Irene is Irene Bobbin, the dressmaker’s daughter. Her mother, Mrs. Bobbin, isn’t feeling so well and can’t possibly deliver the beautiful ball gown she’s made for the duchess to wear that very evening. So plucky Irene volunteers to get the gown to the palace in time, in spite of the fierce snowstorm that’s brewing – quite an errand for a little girl!

But where there’s a will, there’s a way, as Irene proves in the danger-fraught adventure that follows. She must defy the wiles of the wicket wind, her most formidable opponent, and overcome many obstacles before she completes her mission. Surely, this winning heroine will inspire every child to cheer her on.

My Take: I'm a sucker for a read along book! I feel like I'm a librarian as I hold the book and turn the pages for the kids. And this is the perfect book to be a read along. It's super long and each page has lots of words. With a 2 and 3 year old it can sometimes be difficult to hold their attention that long. My two year old ran off after about 3 pages. However, my daughter loved it! It was all about a very brave girl facing a hard task in extreme weather. She was super focused on every page.

Now my only problem with this book was I kept waiting for the "beep" to tell me to turn the page but there was none. Well, that's where I was wrong. The very first playing of the book is a straight read through. The second playing is the read along with the page turning cues. Trust it pays to read directions...LOL. And it's read by the famous actress Meryl Streep, sure I know the kids might not know who she is but you will. Actually didn't she play Cruella Deville in the new dalmation movies?  So with that said, this is a perfect winter time story book for any child! It would make a great present or even a cute stocking stuffer!

Buy it: This book was just released last week, Nov. 22 and it retails for $9.99. You can purchase it HERE for $7.99!
