HDG- #Review: Twister Mania for XBox 360 Kinect

We've been wanting to get a Kinect forever! The last time Amazon had the BIG gold box deal of buying an Xbox 360 Kinect and getting a $100 credit we jumped on it. Now we're having a blast playing all these great games. And of course I want to share some of the great games we have had the chance to try with you!

The first game that I want to share is Twister Mania! I'm sure everyone has played this game at least once. It's great even with little kids because they learn body parts, right and left, and colors. So it was cool to see that the Xbox 360 Kinect released a video game based around this party classic. Here's a little bit about the game:

TWISTERMania on Kinect for Xbox 360 combines the colorful, expressive and cooperative gameplay of the iconic TWISTER® board game and transforms it for the video game generation. Twist into fun with friends and family in this light-hearted, fast-paced game that supports up to eight players with deep gameplay, three game modes with 16 different variations and over 1,800 shapes to twist in to! Don’t hold back as you duck, squeeze, twist and move your body to match your opponent’s silhouette, knock down blocks against the clock and fill in thousands of crazy shapes of all sizes and themes!

My Take: I have to be honest. This game wasn't at all what I expected. I loved all the options you had for game play, including having up to 3 teams of people taking turns competing. There are four main challenges to choose from that include:

-Shape Frenzy: Mimic the shape (there are over 1800!) that appears on screen and earn points based on how well you fill its silhouette.
-Twist & Fit: Avoid the wall and fit your silhouette through cutouts coming at you on a moving wall. Score points by passing through a wall without touching a thing; the more wall you hit the lower your score.
-Break It Down: Work your way through a stack of colored blocks by assuming their form. When a shape is removed, the wall above will begin to crumble.
-Spot On: Challenge up to three players (or four teams of two) in a game of contortion H-O-R-S-E. Create a shape and see if your friends can match it.

There was no actual original twister play on this game and I was really sad to see that! I wanted my kids to work on color recognition and body parts but there was none of that. It was also hard to switch from adult players to kid players. Now this could be a user issue but I just couldn't figure out how to configure it to switch between the two heights when we played.

Needless to say, my kids loved the game! They've played it a few times and I can't wait to we get together with the rest of the family over the holidays so we all can try it out. It's sure to be loads of fun and loads of laughs just like the orignial board/floor game!

Buy it: Twister Mania for Xbox 360 Kinect is in stores now for the SRP of $49.99. For more indepth information about the game please visit: http://www.twistermania.com/index.php
