Yes, we LOVE Halloween. This year my husband is deployed and we're in our new house and I just knew I wanted to go all out! So I decided to throw a Halloween party for a few of my kids friends. I love to entertain! But of course, what's a Halloween party without the treats!?! Luckily I got the chance to head on over to my favorite Murphy Express and pick up some great treats for the little ghouls and goblins at our party!
OK, first I was a little apprehensive about going to a gas station to pick up treats! I mean I'm a frugal mommy and I always believe that the best deal is buying bulk (although I'm learning that's not always true). However, I also knew that I wasn't having that many kids coming to the party and their parents didn't want them loaded up on treats!
So what did Murphy USA have to offer? I was shocked at all the great deals! I mean there was sign after sign advertising awesome prices on candy, cookies and sodas. Just check out a few of the signs I found:
I mean 2 for $1 M&Ms, $.99 gum, and BOGO on cookies! What more would a kid (or mommy) want! So I loaded up my reusable tote and went to the register. The bag was full but I only spent $19! I was in shock! I couldn't believe it! The cashier thought I was crazy! I told her I needed to go back and get more! She even helped point out some more deals that were advertised with signs. Like Laffy Taffy sticks, 3/$.99 and two pack cookies for $.99! I was in heaven! I really wish I could have taken pictures of the cashiers and people's faces when I left with my loot! Check out my bag when I got home:
Yes, all of that was in that one bag! I couldn't believe it! Then I was hit with some bad news. Ok it wasn't that bad but it was a little bit of a shock. Instead of the original six kids that had RSVP'd, I had everyone finally respond and now it was up to 17 kids!!! Now I had lots of treats but not THAT many! So what did I do? I made treat bags for the parents! Parents are usually the ones who get left out of Halloween festivities because we are taking care of the kids, so I thought I would include the parents too. Here's a picture of the parent's loaded treat bag:
