Review & #Giveaway: Xia-Xia

I know it's a little early but I started my Christmas shopping at the beginning of this month. I'll also be doing a small gift Christmas guide all through the month of November! I think the hardest thing about searching for gifts for kids between the ages of 0-10 is that there is SOOO much to choose from. It makes me want to be a kid again. And it doesn't help that everything my kids see on TV they say, " I want that at my party". Yeah they get Christmas and birthday confused. I think it's because my daughter's birthday is actually Christmas Day!

Enough of me babbling about Christmas! Now let's talk about the latest toys that I got to review for my kiddos. They are called Xia-Xia (pronounced Shah Shah). What are Xia-Xia? Well they look like bight colored hermit crabs that scurry around like Zhu-Zhu pets and have a removable shell with a hidden surprise. Whew! That was a mouthful. If you visit Xia-Xia on Facebook you can learn more. Like:

Xia-Xia come from the faraway land of Xia-topia, where the festival of cheer lasts all day and night! Costumed in their colorful shells, Xia-Xia skitter-scatter like they’re in a carnival parade. They love to dance the samba to their favorite song, and explore far and wide with their kooky friends. They are skitter-scattering, pitter-pattering, loveable, crazy crabs with shells and kooky friends to collect and trade.
There are four crabs:  Bimini, Turks, Trinidad and Tobago and 12 trading shells each with a special prize underneath. And to add to the fun there are three different playsets for the Xia-Xia to party and scurry around on!
My Take: I was so excited to get my HUGE box of Xia-Xia crabs (all four) along with their three playsets! I couldn't wait to take them out and play with them myself.
First, I want to comment on the cute little box they came in. It was like a cute little takeout box/carrier. It almost made me think of what you would get if you bought a hermit crab at the store.
Second, I loved the names. They are so tropical and fun sounding. Third, I loved watching them run around. My kids couldn't wait to get their hands on them! They immediately put them in the copacabana and watched them move around. Of course they also had to put them on the kitchen floor to chase our dog Dusty and follow me around while I cooked...LOL.

Finally, the kids loved trading around the different shells and the little surprises inside. as a matter of fact I didn't even notice that there was something under the shell but the kids had seen the commercial and they knew where to look. Under one shell there was a little eskimo looking toy and under the other shell was another cute surprise. I don't remember what and my son of course hid it! LOL.

Now being a mom I did have a few suggestions about these cute toys. Number one, be careful with the claws. They can come off and if you have a curious little boy you might spend some time putting on claws all day long. Number 2, do not have these around little children. The surprise under the shell is super tiny and can be a choking hazard. I know that shouldn't have to be said but it's really easy for little ones to find the little surprises. Number 3, be careful using the XiaXia in the playsets. Sometimes their claws can get in the way and they can't make it through the openings. This can be frustrating for little kids and frustrating for the mom too! You just have to be patient and redirect the crabs! Other than those small suggestions these would be perfect toys to buy for Birthday or Christmas gifts! You can find them in Walmart or Toys R Us!
Win it: I get to giveaway one Xia-Xia and one Xia-Xia shell. This giveaway will begin on October 26 and end on November 8. It is open to the US only. Just fill out the simple rafflecopter form to enter! Good Luck!

Disclosure: These items were provided to me by Xia-Xia and MomSelect in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
