I mean afterall these things looked dangerous and we had all read all the articles about kids getting injured or later having back problems or other issues. It was just too much of a liability at the school. HOWEVER, when I found out there was an opportunity for busy moms to try out Heelys I jumped all over it! I wanted to see what the hype was about. And anything that could help me keep up with my active 3 and 2 year olds would be greatly appreciated! After all, I'd see the kids at school zip down the hallway with ease. If they could do it then I just knew I could!
So Heelys let a few of us MOMs pick out a pair of Heelys from their website to try for ourselves. I was super excited when I saw that the options we had weren't too wild looking and would look great as casual or semi-dress (fashion) tennis shoes. I picked out a great pair that would go with jeans and most of my tops. Now, about the ordering process! OK HASSLE! First we had to set up an account. No biggie! You do that for almost every online site. Second, the sizes! I am terrible with sizes and the site doesn't have a sizing chart! I was told the shoes run true to size. Well that doesn't really help moms that just had babies or feet fluctuate. I also didn't like the way it grouped all sizes into one by gender and age. Kids 6, was Women 8, which was mens 9, which was really confusing to me! I basically just guessed. Unfortunately they were a little too big!
My Take: So I picked the Wave as my choice! It has mock toe court styling with contrast color piping and embroidered quarter logo. It also has a synthetic nubuck and synthetic leather upper (don't ask me what this means but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't real nubuck and leather although I don't know if that makes a real difference. I love the color and how versatile it is. So I took them out the box, easily put in the wheels and was ready to try them out.

All I can say is, HAHAHA! I was terrible. I wanted to make a video of me skating along or even learning to skate along (even waited to the last minute to write this thinking I would have a video) however that would have been a joke. I could barely stand up in them and try to roll holding on to things around me! I would have never thought it was so hard. I even looked at the videos and still had issues! Maybe it will help you out more than me! Below is a picture of me styling in the shoes without the wheels in...hehehe!
so in conclusion, what are my final thoughts. I'm not sure that I'm the mom for these. Honestly, I love the look of the shoes and they are super comfy so I have been wearing them around without the heels like regular shoes. There is lots of support and they look great! I did notice with the wheels in, if you weren't skating or trying to skate in my case, then it was a little bit of strain on your back. So did Heelys change my mind about the safety of using them. Actually, yes. They tell you the same precautions to use as if you're learning to skateboard or ride a bike, use a helmet and pads. They also suggest using helmet and pads when doing tricks. So if you're an adventurous mom who wants to get out there and show you're just as hip as the kids, then "you go girl"! I still plan on getting a video of my strolling around outside with the kids on their bikes, skating along with the wind through my hair! Stay Tuned!
