Review & Giveaway: I don't Wanna Take a Bath!

Ok moms out there. How many times have you heard, "but MOM, I don't wanna take a bath"? In my case I heard it just the other day, followed by, "no wash my hair". OK so we have to deal with compromises. We took the bath and skipped the hair. Her hair really wasn't dirty anyway.

For all the moms out there who are with me with the bath battles, then I have the perfect book for you: Mildred Pope's "But I don't wanna take a Bath- a Mike and Tyke Series".

But I Don't Wanna Take A Bath! is the first in A Mike and Tyke Series of children's picture books based on the experiences of the author's children and grandchildren. Mike, his dog, Tyke, and his friend, Bud, splash and play all day in a mud puddle. As the day comes to an end, Bud goes home. Mike and Tyke are reluctant to go inside because they don't "wanna" take a bath! Covered in mud, they decide to "disguise" themselves from Mom, or so they think. Written from a child's prospective, children as young as 3 years old can identify and enjoy the various characters, costumes, and antics that children play. The book immediately grabs the audience's attention and draws them into the story by asking questions and by demanding silence. Reading a book has never been more fun for parents and children of all ages!

My Take: There are so many great things about this book! First, you know when you get a book in the mail and your kids immediately grab it and ask you to read it, then it must be a keeper. Unfortunately, I was super busy last week so I didn't get to rid it that minute. SO, my persistent kids continued to pester me until I read it! And I'm happy they did!

I love that this book has children of color for the main characters. I try to expose my kids to as much diversity as possible so I love having books with main characters of all kinds of people my kids will see. Second, I love that the book is written as a rhyme. It makes it more entertaining for the kids and easier for the parents to read. It also helps the kids to remember the story! Third and possibly my most favorite part of this book, is how modern it is! The little boy dresses up in various costumes to trick his mom. AND the costumes were characters that my kids know and love! Check out this one and see if you can figure it out:

Buy it: You can purchase the book for the price of $9.99 HERE.

Win it: I love this book so much that I have a copy to give away to one lucky reader. I can honestly say that it has made a small difference in our bath routines. They are more willing to take a bath after hearing the story, ok well, at least some of the time! HEHEHE. This giveaway will begin on August 8 and end on August 14. It is open to the US AND CANADA!
