Review & Giveaway: The Gruffalo DVD

I think I'm becoming an expert on reviewing movies for kids and I LOVE it! My kids love movies and now when we see them on TV they always say, "we have that one"! The latest movie we were sent to review has to be one of my favorites so far. It's from a book that I had found at the library and read it to my kids. I'm sure they don't remember but I did. So here's the book/movie:

The Gruffalo
Synopsis

Based on the best-selling children’s book, The Gruffalo is a magical tale of a mouse who takes a stroll through the woods.  Encountering three predators who all wish to eat him, the adorable and confident mouse has to use his wits to survive.  He tells his predators that he is meeting a monster, which scares each of them, but what will mouse do when comes face to face with the terrible product of his imagination?

My Take: So what did we think? First, I have to say it was an 2010 Academy Award nominee so I personally loved it! Sometimes you have movies for kids that are educational and based on the book but they are just scenes from the book with narration. Well, this was different. It was a live action movie and the graphics were updated and entertaining. They fit right in with all the modern cartoons my kids watch. I also loved that the movie was only 40 minutes which works perfect with a 2 and 3 year old attention spans! Another plus for my son is that it's about animals and he loves animals. He likes to take the DVD case and just look at all the animals on the back, especially the Gruffalo! And my daughter loved the music that plays throughout the movie. It really sets the mood, from calm, to happy and even a little scary at moments! Finally, I love that one of my favorite actresses narrates the movie as mother squirrel. It's Helena Bonham Carter, married to Tim Burton, the Queen in Alice in Wonderland! She rocks! She has the most unique voice and it's perfect for the movie!

Buy it: The Gruffalo was released yesterday, august 16 and is available at most retailers or online at www.NCircleEntertainment.com! It has a run time of 40mins plus bonus materials including the making of the movie.

  8. My first comment was about the movie reviewed, and I am not sure if that qualifies for my first entry... so I would also like to get Kung Fu Panda 2 - the reason is that we have almost worn out (if that's possible) Kung Fu Panda.
