Review & Giveaway: The Smurfs: A Magical Adventure

When my family went to see the movie Cars 2 there was a preview for the new Smurfs movie. I was excited to see it was live action like the Chipmunks movie. The kids thought it looked cool. We've already introduced them to the Smurfs because we own a few of the DVDs. As a matter of fact we just watched the latest release of the old classics yesterday: The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure.

The Smurfs: A Magical Smurf Adventure
Available: July 19, 2011

A “super-Smurfy” collection featuring 10 episodes from the hit ‘80s Saturday morning cartoon series. Available in stores July 19, 2011, this delightful compilation stars everyone’s favorite Smurfs, including Lazy, Brainy, Smurfette, Hefty, Clumsy, Papa Smurf, and others in a delightful set of adventures the entire family can enjoy together.

This DVD includes the following Episodes:

Smurf Van Winkle – Lazy is tricked into believing he’s slept his life away.

Revenge of the SmurfsThe Smurfs try to get even with an army that’s stormed their village.

Magic FountainThe Smurfs search for a magic fountain.

Smurf Me No Flowers – Lazy is led to believe he has only a few days to live.

The Cursed Country – An evil master captures Smurfs to work in his diamond mine.

The Blue Plague - Brainy gives the Smurfs a meal that makes them feel like chickens.

The Ring of CastellacThe Smurfs return a drugged duke to his rightful place.

A Mere Truffle – Tracker loses his memory while leading the Smurfs on a truffle hunt.

Gormandizing Greedy – Greedy gains weight after a diet of sweets and desserts.

Sister Smurf – Smurfette and a young girl are held captive by an old hag.

My Take: This started out like most of the old classics with my kids. They look at it like it's some crazy old movie that they don't want to see. It's not Dora or a super hero so they think it can't be good. Me, on the other hand, well, I'm sitting there enjoying every minute of it. I watch a full episode bringing back all the great memories of some of my favorite smurfs and their friends, Johan and Pee-Wee. Then I get up and go downstairs leaving the kids in the playroom to watch. When I go back to check on them, they are laying out on the floor watching intently. I even caught my daughter singing, "la-la-lalala-la" as she watched. So yes the classics are just as good to the little ones as they are to the old folks. The great part is my husband and I can sit down and enjoy these with our kids! Gotta love it!

Buy it: This DVD will be available, today July 19 for the SRP of $19.97.
