Review & Giveaway: Moving From Blogger to WordPress E-book

so I'm with all the rest of the "getting established" bloggers out there. I need a re-haul. And lately with all the minor issues that Blogger has been having, I'm considering a switch to WordPress. BUT I must admit, WP has me a little intimidated. I use it to write posts for The Family Review Network and I always have trouble there. I've actually lost entire posts because I did something wrong when it came to saving them! So when it comes to making a choice whether or not to move from Blogger to WP, I really want to know more!

First, I decided to try the whole, "the internet is at your fingertips" approach. I started googling and trying to learn all I can about WP and blog hosting. I used to think I was computer savvy until I began my search! I didn't understand half of the stuff I was reading. I'm terrible with HTML, and I know nothing about web hosting. That's why I was super excited when MamaBzz and Sharon Hujik offered me the chance to read Sharon's new E-book How to Move from Blogger to WordPress: a comprehensive guide so you don't miss a step.

This book will walk you through the move from Blogger to WordPress. It will guide you through the entire process, step by step, clearly explaining exactly what you need to do, when you need to do it, and why. It will show you how to set up a test blog so you can practice on WordPress without impacting your Blogger blog. It will introduce you to the different components of WordPress like Themes, Plugins and Widgets. It will outline the exact steps you need to take to ensure that the incoming links (which drive your Page Rank and SEO) are intact. It will explain how to redirect your domain name so that your blog is never down (even if you are still using blogspot.com!) It will give you detailed instructions on how to update FeedBurner to pull updates from your new WordPress blog.
BONUS MATERIAL! A complete chapter on how to transfer Google Friend Connect followers to WordPress.

My Take: At first I was a little worried that this would be so technical and difficult to read that I wouldn't understand any of it. However, I was excited to see it was more of a how to guide for moving for moving to WordPress which even included my favorite: SCREEN SHOTS! Yes, there were pictures to help guide you through the process. The language was also great. Hujik uses everyday language to tell you how to do everything and she even has a glossary of words in case you get a little confused or run into something you just don't understand. She starts with self-hosting, takes you to how to customize WP and then how to make the actual switch so you don't lose followers or other important information.

I must say I'm slowly reading this book because I am seriously debating this change within the next few months. I'm learning a lot! I'm starting to save up money for a web host and trying to find a blog designer for the switch! This was the perfect book for me. I'm so excited to learn more. Hujik even includes a handy little checklist in the appendix so you can check off each step of your move. What more can you ask for?

I think my only complaint was that it's an E-book. I have an okay computer but I'm old fashioned. I like to have an actual book in my hand to read and write on. Or maybe even the option to download it to an e-reader would be awesome...like the Kindle..hint hint. =)

Buy it: You can just run right over HERE and purchase this E-book for $35. If you're not sure you want to purchase the entire book yet, you can download the first few chapters.

Win it: Two lucky people are going to win a FREE copy of How to Move from Blogger to WordPress! This giveaway begins on June 16 and end on June 30. It's open to everyone because it's a download!! I'm still trying out this new form Rafflecopter for giveaway. Let me know what you think. We'll make this a simple form.

  2. I would love to win this because I am doing the transfer now, and I am stuck on figuring out FTP's! I refuse to publish a blog that is halfway done especially when the whole draw of WP is how professional it looks. I've been ready to rip my hair out for the last two days, and the YT videos are just mocking me! I feel like a third grader in a college level course.
