My kids love Disney Movies. I think we buy almost every Disney movie there is. It all started with my parents buying every Disney movie for my brother and me. Of course that tradition was passed on and I still do the same, it's just that now I'm buying DVDs and Blu Rays instead of VHS tapes...LOL.
Well, my kids were thrilled when they saw the previews for Cars 2 on TV. They kept saying, "Cars", "we go see" and telling me to turn it on. That's when I decided maybe it was time for them to head to the movie theater to see their first full length feature film! Now I must admit I was scared after I made this decision and the only reason I decided to do it was because my husband is still here and he could help me in the theater! If it was just me and a 3 year old and a 2 year old, yep, you guessed it, it wouldn't happen!
So once I made this decision it was time to buy the tickets. The movie was released into theaters on June 25 and I knew we weren't going on the first day. I hate crowds! So I settled for the 26I was tasked with purchasing my tickets using the Fandango Mobile App. I love my phone and like any other red blooded American Mom, I love apps! They make your life so much easier, so I couldn't wait to download it. However, I didn't know where to start! So what did I do, I went to the Fandango Home page and looked for the mobile apps. There was a link right at the bottom that showed how to download the app to your phone.
I went to my handy HTC evo, went into the Android App Market, searched for Fandango and downloaded the app. It was that simple. Then I proceeded to buy my tickets. It was a Thursday and I was excited to see that I could pre-purchase my tickets before the movie was even released! I'm not sure how far ahead you can do this but it was super convenient. If you want to see my whole downloading and ticket purchasing experience then check out my this moment below!
Now as for my thoughts about the Fandango Mobile App. First the positives. I love how colorful and interactive the app was. You could even look at trailers for movies. This would be perfect if you were on vacation and you needed an activity to fill your time but you didn't know what movies were playing where and what they were about. You had the option to search any city. It would bring up any theaters in the local area (no need for phonebooks anymore). It was also a simple process to use your phone to actually purchase your tickets.
As for the not so positives. I have young children. I wasn't sure what ages could get free tickets. I had to actually visit the theaters web site to see the ages for ticket prices. That would be some valuable information to have on the app. It would prevent you from buying unnecessary tickets. Second, I was upset that there was no way to apply any type of discounts. For example, we're military and our theater gives military discounts. Couldn't use that when I purchased my tickets from the mobile app. (It didn't matter though. We bought matinee tickets) Finally, the convenience/courtesy charge! This is one I wasn't expecting. It was $1.25 per ticket! That's a lot of money if you ask me. And what was it for. I still had to go and wait in line to get my tickets when I went to the movies. I totally meant to take a picture and forgot. They had a separate line but I still had to wait for someone to come and look up my tickets. If I had went to the movies early and bought my tickets, I would have them in hand and be able to just walk straight through. So maybe having a way to get an e-ticket to print or that can be shown from your phone is an option to think about.
Either way I was excited when I received my email with my instructions on how to pick up my tickets followed by an email with a link to download the free movie short Tokyo Mater from iTunes! A free perk for purchasing your tickets using Fandango.
AND THE MOVIE- We loved it. Well, as much as you can with a three year old and a two year old. They loved hearing McQueen say "Ka-chow!" and watching the car races. It was a pretty fast paced movie although two hours is a little long for the little ones (my youngest fell asleep...hehehe). And if you're expecting to see a lot of McQueen then think again. He was only in it a little bit. However, my favorite character, Mr. Tow Mater, was the star. I loved every minute of it. It was all about spies, secret weapons, intrigue, and even an eco-conscious fuel for cars! Gotta Love it!
Now who wants to win tickets to see the movie? If you're not sure what it's about check out the trailer!
