Review: Cinco De Mayo Oretga style!

I hope that everyone does know that today is Cinco De Mayo and no Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day! For this special day my family likes to live it up by eating mexican food and drinking Latin inspired drinks! However, this year my husband was supposed to be gone for the day so we decided to do our Cinco de Mayo celebration actually on Quatro de Mayo...LOL. And what better way to celebrate than with Oretga Products! Thanks to the Family Review Network and Ortega I was able to do just that!

Tacos are a family-friendly way to enjoy a meal together, and can be healthy when prepared with the right ingredients. The whole family can participate in this do-it-yourself dinner featuring a variety of nutritious and colorful toppings such as chopped tomatoes and peppers, low fat cheeses, crunchy and soft taco shells, seasonings and more. Here are a few simple, easy and better-for-you ideas from Ortega to kick off
a healthy taco (or Cinco de Mayo) celebration:

Try a new and healthy taco recipe, such as Easy Oven Soft Chicken Tacos or Baja Fish Tacos. Both are great options for a delightful hot luncheon, after-school snack or dinner on cold winter days.
Swap out corn taco shells for whole grain, such as Ortega Whole Grain Taco Shells. These taco shells are rich with flavor and texture and offer the fiber and complex carbohydrates your body needs.
Ditch the salt! Use low sodium taco seasoning, such as Ortega 40% Less Sodium Taco Seasoning.

My Take: I received some great new healthy products from Ortega to try out. They were: Ortega Whole Grain Taco Shells, Ortega 40% Less Sodium Taco Seasoning, Ortega Taco Sauce, and Oretga Whole Wheat Tortillas!

The kit also came with a recipe that I will share later. I didn't want to fix it because I knew the kids wouldn't eat it. Instead I used the seasoning mix to make my ground beef. I was a little worried because I've used low sodium mixes before and they just tasted bland. This was different. It was quite flavorful and was super yummy. My husband couldn't believe it was low sodium! We then cut up our veggies, got out the guac, some sour cream, and the Oretga taco sauce. Now let me just warn you about taco sauce. I hate it! I can't ever find any I like so at first I wasn't even going to attempt to try the Ortega sauce. However, I am now a convert! This sauce is awesome. It wasn't too thick, it wasn't too chunky nor to runny. It was just right. It will be my first choice of sauce from now on!! We made a few tacos but most of our shells were broken. Nothing new there. They had to travel cross country and half the time when you buy shells in the store they are broken. So we just broke them up and dipped them into a spicy queso sauce. Worked for me!

Now that was the first night! Since most reviewers received broken shells, Ortega mailed us some whole wheat tortillas to use! Talk about awesome customer service! I love this company and tortillas are usually our preference. So last night I made some cheese quesadillas for the kids with the whole wheat tortillas and some low fat mexican cheese. My husband and my quesadillas were a little more complex. We used the beef, some chicken, cheese, tomatoes, olives, sour cream, and the taco sauce. YUMMY! Ortega now has a new fan in me! We'll be using their products for every taco night!
