My family loves outdoor activities. If they could live outdoors they would. Trust me! Just give them a tent, some food and water, toys and they would be set for life! So when I was asked to review the Aerobie Sprint Flying Ring I jumped at the chance. Here's a little bit about this super cool "frisbee" disc.
Compact and lightweight, the Aerobie Sprint ring flies twice as far as conventional flying discs for awesome games of catch. Its smaller size is its only distinction from the otherwise identical Aerobie Pro flying ring, which holds the Guinness World Record for the longest throw. Ideal for those who enjoy the incredible flying performance of Aerobie rings but have a smaller area for play, the Sprint ring is great for backyards, parks, playgrounds, beaches, and camping trips. The ring's soft rubber edge makes it comfortable to catch and fun for throwers of all skill levels. Size: 10 inch diameter. Available in orange, magenta, and yellow. Ages 7 and up.
My Take: Now I first have to say I was a little concerned about this toy. I didn't REALLY read the suggested ages until after I received it. I was so worried that my two and three year old wouldn't be able to play it! However, my 9 year old stepson was visiting so I figured he would be the perfect guinea pig. He loved it! He was more a pro at throwing it than I was. Then my three year old wanted a try. The Aerobie is so easy to throw after playing with it for a day my daughter was getting pretty good. I know the suggested age is 7 but the way the disc is made even a three year old can master it with some practice. The whole in the center makes it easier to grip than a Frisbee and the design lets the wind and air just make it float. The hole in the center also makes it easier to catch, although I did find myself reaching and jumping a lot!
I took several videos only to realize it's hard to capture this toy in action. However, you can see the smiles on my kids! (video below). OK excuse my video. I'm really not great at taking video yet. This is the perfect toy to get some great exercise. You have to run, jump, and stretch to catch it. You can have your younger children try to race it as you throw it across the yard. You can play games to see how far you can throw it. The ideas are endless. After being a school counselor in an elementary school and helping out with field day I can see how valuable these inexpensive toys actually are to helping children stay active!
Buy it: You can visit Aerobie's store locator to find a retailer near you. As a matter of fact I was just searching on amazon and found the Aerobie Spring Ring for $5.99! What an outstanding price. There was even a pro ring and sprint ring combo set for $15.99! If you don't know about the pro ring or any of the other Aerobie products you can check them out on the Aerobie website. They even have a coffee and expresso maker!
