Last Minute Gifts Review & Giveaway: Prima Princessa presents: The Nutcracker

Yes, I have to admit I was in dance class when I was little. I remember the first dance group I was in would perform the Nutcracker Suite every year. Of course I was only 2 or 3 years old so I have no idea what I actually did. I probably was a doll or something that just sat on the floor or walked out on my tiptoes. ANYWAYS...I now have a 2 almost 3 year old who just started dance so when I saw this DVD I just knew I had to get it for her. First, let me share a little bit about Prima Princessa presents: The Nutcracker:

Become a ballerina! Prima Princessa brings you England's world famous Birmingham Royal Ballet performing excerpts from The Nutcracker that will inspire the ballerina in you! Come join in the holiday fun with Prima Princessa as she takes you to a magical show filled with snow fairies, toy soldiers, tutus, pirouettes and plies.

My Take: I was so excited to put this DVD in. I hadn't enrolled my little girl into dance class when I first received it but I thought she would still love it. I watched it first alone, during naptime and I love how interactive it was. I must admit there were some boring parts with little girls just twirling or playing that I wasn't expecting but the parts where your child can actually join in is awesome. I also found it a little difficult to follow the Nutcracker Suite storyline but I guess that's because I was expecting it to go through the story without interruptions.

So here's the child results: First time I put the DVD in she refused to watch it. She kept saying, "no like" but I honestly believe it was something so new and different for her that it just didn't hold her interest. She didn't know what the little kids were doing and didn't care.

Second take: A month later, after I enrolled her into dance class, I try the DVD again! Wow! Whole new child! She gets up, dances along saying, "point", "kick", "port a bas (port de bras)" for all the new moves she knows how to do. She loves the DVD now. Even her brother tries to join in...LOL. As I'm writing this she is watching the DVD and doing "passes" which also happen to be in her dance routine! Great practice!

I've learned that this is a perfect DVD for a child who is in dance class. It's just easier for them to relate to and participate in. If your child knows nothing about ballet be prepared for them to not really show too much interest. There is just too much interaction between the viewer and the video for them to just sit and watch. They have to want to participate. And I love that! It's a great little activity for a cold day!

Buy it: This DVD was released on September 7, 2010. You can purchase Prima Princessa presents: The Nutcracker for $5.99 (great price) HERE!  If it is still on backorder you can get it at Amazon for $6.99 (use those swagbucks!) The run time is approx. 60 minutes.
