CoverMate Food Covers

I always have issues with what to do with leftovers, especially when it's just enough food to fit on a paper plate. We always forget to buy saran wrap and when I use foil I forget what mystery food lurks under the plate. So when I saw CoverMates, I figured that is the perfect product for me. Clear platic wrap with elastic around the outside that will shape to fit almost any container. Also good when I love tupperware tops. I think the dishwasher eats them...LOL.

This is what CoverMates says about their product: Covermate’s Flexband technology allows you to cover, uncover and re-cover dishes in seconds. A heat-sealed edge provides a tight hygienic seal to keep food fresh. The covers are made from clear material so it is easy to see contents. Each cover has four built-in corners that expand as necessary to fit any shape. And tiny corner vents allow steam to escape when used in a microwave. I love the way they refer to the covermates as "shower caps", because they kind of look that way. My mom actually mistook one of the larger ones for a shower cap!

So what comes in a pack: I received a CoverMates variety pack that had 4 medium, 4 large, 2 extra large and one small can cover. I must admit the small was bigger than I expected it to be. It wouldn't fit many of my small round tupperware containers. I mostly used the large on paper plates. They were great covers; I could see through them and always know what food I had in the fridge! However, they didn't always create a tight seal. If you had something liquid or semi-liquid, like a sauce, I'm not sure that covermates would withhold being turned over without spilling. That's one thing that is very important in my household when I have little ones that sometimes venture into the refrigerator.

They also say that CoverMates are reusable. I absolutely agree with this. I just washed them out and stretched them over some cups to dry. The only downfall is it took forever to dry. The box also says that it is dishwasher top rack safe. I don't think i would try that one. They are the same consistency as plastic zip bags and I'm just worried that they would melt. Just not worth the risk for me.

Overall I liked the CoverMates. I use them occasionally but not as much as I thought I would. I'm more of a tried and true tupperware fan. They didn't really meet my expectations of creating a seal around containers and that is the most important for my family. We mainly use these to cover plates or sauces during meal times. For example, I cover my husband's food with it if he is going to be late from work, or cover up the kid's food until they are ready to finish eating. I don't think I will be purchasing more.
